A Beautiful Day in Philly, at the Barnes Museum

This morning we woke up early, had a delicious and lavish breakfast at the Union League club together with my parents and family friends. It was such a treat to spend more time with this lovely group in such a beautiful setting.

Next on our Philadelphia agenda was the Barnes museum. It was magnificent. Having studied art history while an undergraduate, I have a huge love for art, and this museum might take the cake for best museum ever! It is SO dense with rich art it’s overwhelming, but that’s the nature of this museum. The collection was owned by the late Dr. Barnes, and after many years of negotiations within his foundation and trusts, they took the works from their original location and were put into the impeccably built new structure.

What’s so unique about this museum is that the works are no further than about a foot of each other, and stacked so densely. While it’s hard to comprehend each work, I couldn’t help but feel like I was in the living room of an eccentric aristocrat. It was fabulous.

Thank you to the McKeans for bringing us on a special docent tour! It was very special.
