Oslo Bislettkonferansen 2017 : The Bislett Games

This afternoon I had the pleasure of attending the Bislettkonferansen hosted by Zero.

The Bislett Games are one of the most admired athletic events in Norway, and are sponsored annually by ExxonMobil. As a former track and field athlete myself, and Bislett stadium being my own home running track, this event was very special for me to be a part of! I was so excited to be invited to attend the conference, and so glad that Rasmus was able to join!

Set at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, the conference had wonderful speeches in both English and Norwegian, and they provided us with a lovely lunch. Every major newspaper and other media outlet had journalists there, it was amazing to meet such incredible minds!

As a former Junior Olympic high jumper, it was very exciting for me to meet Steinar Hoen. Hoen is a retired European Champion high jumper, who happened to be hosting the entire Bislett Games. It was great speaking with him, and I look forward to catching up with him again soon!

The conference was an incredible way to connect to the mindset behind Scandinavian athletics. They discussed innovation around the environment. With speakers ranging from intellect and women’s focused investor Isabelle Ringnes, to Bloomberg New Energy Financial specialist Colin McKerracher, and many more.

After the lunch break, the room split into two and we had the option between two small sessions, Rasmus and I opted for “Fighting Climate Change Through Investments.” It was very interesting to hear what they have to say, and it was very cool how they took this opportunity to use a popular sporting event to focus on climate and the future of our world. We may be able to sit back an enjoy the running races today, but by 2050, it might not be happening if we don’t do something. Scandinavians tend to be slightly ahead of the curve when it comes to forward thinking ideas on the environment, and I was so honored to have been invited to take part in this day!
