Driving Trollstigen and Geirangerfjord

This week has been absolutely amazing!! I’ve been getting to spend so much time with new and old family and friends, and it’s so special. Living in Norway is one of the best things to have ever happened to me, and I’m so grateful every time I get to see a new part of this country. Around every corner there is something beautiful, something historical, and something simply magical. Driving through the hairpin turns along cliffs edges, seeing endless beautiful farmhouses, and breathtaking views – the landscape and architecture here never ceases to amaze me!

On this particular trip we took our two minibuses with both of my parents in law driving. Along with us were my parents, Mary Kate and Gregg, and their best friends, Beatriz and Chris, my sister’s in laws, Jackie and Rich, my brother and sister in law and their lovely children, Lars-Kristian and Caroline with Nelia and Naia, and my best friend, Danika. It was so amazing getting to chat with all of them; just in case they all went sure about how obsessed I am with the countryside and farmhouses, they are now!

For lunch we stopped at a restaurant deep in the mountains called Petrines Gjestgiveri. It was so majestic. The old building sits just beside a babbling brook, with tons of flowers, and the house is a simple white structure with the name written in old block letters. Inside the long table was set with simple wild flowers and everyone enjoyed a lovely and tasty meal with coffee. Petrines is also an inn and I highly recommend it! It is old fashioned but very sweet! This area of Norddal is usually closed off in the winter because of the deep snow – with many of the roads being shut down due to 6m high snowfalls.

After lunch we headed to the world heritage site Geirangerfjord. It was so cool. There was a huge cruise ship in town and we walked around looking at all kinds of cool things, lots of the shops featured troll and gnome pieces (which I love!). Everyone also picked up a quintessential softis (soft serve ice cream!). It was really cool to see my sister in laws hand bag line, Caroline Berg Eriksen by Adax, being sold at one of the stores as well! Her blog post about this day is really beautiful.

It was an amazing day and I am so grateful!!!
